Glass Art
With over twenty years experience in glass
art, Sue and Graeme and John Harvey-Walker add their distinct
style to their creations. Graeme’s father provided the
original impetus for their work: his door with panels depicting
the wildflowers of each state of Australia is set at the entrance
to the Gallery. Sue and Graeme went on to study under Terrance
Plowright, who is the author of landmark glass window and sculpture
installations around the city of Sydney. The family has continued
their training with specialists in lamps and kiln-fired glass.
The leadlight windows and lamps in the Gallery
display a range of art nouveau, art deco and environmental designs.
Unique plates, bowls and vases are fused and shaped in a specialised
glass kiln. Sue is well known for her feathery and ethereal
combinations of different colours and textures.
All aspects of leadlight work are available
on commission, including new designs, restorations, rebuilding
and repairs. The opening of a purpose-built Studio, adjacent
to the Gallery, has enabled the glass production and student
workshops to develop in a more spacious environment.
Sue offers regular weekend workshops in the
Studio, where students learn the basic skills for Leadlighting
(as used in windows) and Copper-foiling (as used in lamps and
decorative objects). A special Lamp making weekend is also offered,
as well as regular days for Intermediate students to use the
Studio’s equipment and receive ongoing help with their
projects.
Some examples of glass
art for sale is shown on the accompanying page.
